Iron-Rich Beef Bolognese (Baby Version)

A nutrient-dense, slow-cooked sauce packed with iron and vitamins. This version uses finely minced beef and soft-cooked vegetables in a natural tomato base, perfect for serving over tiny pasta or mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

  • 100 grams Lean Ground Beef
  • 2 medium Ripe Tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon Onion
  • 1 tablespoon Carrot
  • 1 teaspoon Celery
  • 0.5 clove Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Olive Oil
  • 1 pinch Dried Oregano or Basil
  • 100 ml Water

Instructions

  1. Finely dice the onion, carrot, and celery. The pieces should be no larger than 0.5cm to ensure they soften completely.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a small saucepan over medium-low heat.
  3. Add the diced vegetables and sauté for 5-8 minutes until they are very soft and translucent.
  4. Add the ground beef to the pan. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to break the meat apart into the smallest possible crumbles as it browns.
  5. Add the minced garlic and dried oregano/basil. Stir for 1 minute.
  6. Add the finely diced tomatoes and water (or low-sodium homemade stock).
  7. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to the lowest setting. Cover and simmer for 25-30 minutes. This slow cooking ensures the beef becomes incredibly tender.
  8. Check the consistency: the sauce should be thick and the vegetables 'melt-in-the-mouth' soft. If it's too dry, add a splash of water.
  9. Serve over small pasta shapes (like Stelline or Ditalini) or mix into a vegetable mash.
