Broccoli & Sweet Potato Mash

A vibrant and mild-tasting mash that introduces your baby to the earthy flavor of broccoli softened by the natural sweetness of sweet potato. High in fiber and Vitamin C.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium Sweet Potato
  • 100 grams Broccoli

Instructions

  1. Wash, peel, and dice the sweet potato into small cubes.
  2. Wash the broccoli and cut it into small florets, removing any tough parts of the stem.
  3. Place the sweet potato cubes in a steamer basket over boiling water. Cover and steam for 10 minutes.
  4. Add the broccoli florets to the steamer and continue steaming for another 5-7 minutes, or until both are very tender when pierced with a fork.
  5. Transfer the vegetables to a bowl. For a 6-month-old, use a blender to create a completely smooth puree.
  6. As your baby gets older, you can transition to using a fork to create a 'textured mash' instead of a smooth puree.
  7. Add 1-2 tablespoons of breast milk, formula, or the steaming water to reach the desired consistency.
  8. Stir in a half-teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil to help your baby absorb the fat-soluble vitamins.
