Baked Trout with Steamed Vegetables

A simple BLW plate of tender baked trout flaked into strips alongside steamed carrot sticks and peas. Trout is rich in DHA omega-3 for brain development and vitamin D, which is especially important for babies in northern climates.
Ingredients
- 1 piece Trout Fillet
- 1 medium Carrot
- 0.25 cup Peas
- 1 teaspoon Olive Oil
- 1 squeeze Lemon Juice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C (360°F).
- Place the trout fillet on a piece of parchment paper or foil. Drizzle with olive oil and a tiny squeeze of lemon.
- Wrap loosely and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the fish flakes easily with a fork and is fully cooked through.
- Meanwhile, peel the carrot and cut into long sticks (finger-width). Steam for 10-12 minutes until very soft — you should be able to squish them between your fingers.
- Steam the peas for 3-4 minutes until soft. For 6-month-olds, lightly mash the peas with a fork to reduce choking risk from the round shape.
- Check the trout carefully for any bones, running your fingers along the flesh.
- Flake the trout into large strips or chunks for baby to grab.
- Arrange the trout, carrot sticks, and mashed peas separately on baby's plate. Let baby explore each component at their own pace.
